Waldorf Protein brings the unmistakable character of classic Waldorf wavetable synthesis into an exceptionally portable desktop instrument. Its 8-voice polyphonic synthesis engine takes inspiration from the original Waldorf Microwave 1 ASIC oscillator architecture, delivering the animated, sometimes gritty digital character that helped make early Waldorf instruments so distinctive.

Protein goes well beyond a vintage-inspired wavetable voice. Four-part multimode operation, extensive modulation, sequencing, arpeggiation, chord and scale functions, and onboard effects turn this little instrument into a surprisingly deep sound-design and performance tool. It's equally at home creating evolving pads, glassy digital textures, aggressive basses, unusual rhythmic sounds, and the wonderfully strange timbres for which Waldorf is known.

Four-Part Waldorf Sound Design

Protein's four-layer architecture lets you combine individual sounds into rich, evolving patches and multitimbral setups. Each layer can contribute its own sonic character, making Protein capable of producing textures that belie its small physical footprint.

Microwave Heritage

At the heart of Protein is Waldorf's celebrated wavetable approach, with a synthesis architecture that reaches back to the Microwave 1. The distinctive digital character of those early oscillators is paired here with modern modulation, sequencing, effects, and performance features. Rather than simply recreating a vintage instrument, Protein uses that heritage as the foundation for a flexible contemporary synth.

B-Stock / Open-Box Condition

B-Stock / Open Box: This unit was supplied to us by the authorized U.S. distributor as B-Stock. We have personally inspected it, and the synthesizer itself is in excellent, essentially like-new cosmetic condition with no notable wear observed. The original box and internal packaging have been opened, including packaging for some of the included accessories. Includes the original box, documentation and pictured accessories.
