About Lakland 4 String Basses
Since the introduction of our flagship models in the mid 1990’s, Lakland Bass guitars have come to be regarded as some of the most well respected instruments in the studio and on the stage, favored by discerning players and professional artists worldwide. Recognized for superior tone, playability and construction, the vintage comfort and contemporary ingenuity of our basses deliver an unparalleled playing experience.
At Lakland, we invest in innovation and set new benchmarks for quality and versatility. We listen closely to the instruments – and to the people who play them. Anything we can do better, we will do best.
Here's What Gives The Lakland Its Unique Sound:
- 4-STRING TUNERS - All Lakland USA Series 4s feature open-back, tapered-shaft Hipshot tuners. The tapered shafts force strings to lie flat against the headstock for improved pressure over the nut.
- REINFORCED HEAD - Reinforced head design provides additional strength at the neck’s weakest point.
- FINGERBOARDS - Lakland Rosewood fingerboards feature Birdseye Maple dots.
- NECK FEATURES - All Lakland necks are manufactured from quarter-sawn Maple and feature two graphite reinforcement bars. We have found that these graphite bars help tremendously to minimize dead spots.
- BOLTS - The Lakland 44 and 55 necks are securely bolted to the body using a five-bolt configuration that offers the player unrestricted access to the upper register.
- FRETS - Lakland luthiers meticulously install the frets, using exacting tolerances that yield superior playability. Hand-filed fret ends, combined with a subtle round-over on the edge of the fingerboard, delivers the ultimate in playing comfort.
- STRAP BUTTONS - Large Dunlop dual design strap buttons are compatible with Straplok systems.
- CUTAWAY - The deep cutaway on the Lakland 44 and 55 allows full access to the 22nd fret.
- PICKUPS - Lakland pickups are hand fabricated and custom wound in our shop in Chicago. Our pickup arrays provide best in class wide frequency response and diverse tonal range.
- STRING THROUGH DESIGN - Dual access design allows strings to go through the body or the bridge.
- BRIDGE - Lakland 44 and 55 instruments feature a solid chromed bridge plate with all stainless steel parts (saddle, screws, springs) to prevent rust and corrosion throughout the life of the instrument.
- ELECTRONICS - Internal preamp offers independent cut and boost of bass midrange, and treble. The preamp is extremely versatile and very quiet. Master volume pulls out to defeat internal preamp. Pickup blend control. Bridge pickup coil configuration can be set for a multitude of tonal possibilities.
