This gauge is designed to provide the lighter plain strings of a 9-42 set with the heavier wound strings of a 10-46 set. The wound strings use nickel-plated steel wire wrapped around tin-plated hex-shaped steel cores. Specially tempered, tin-plated high-carbon steel plain strings provide balanced tone and consistent feel.
