Underrated effect here - the ability to sync multiple modulation effects together AND sync to MIDI clock (on a 5-pin DIN plug no less) is quite unique among pedals and exceedlingly easy to do with the Mod Rex.
This is a really dope pedal. I won't dig too deeply into the nitty gritty, but basically you get four types of simultaneous modulation, all tempo synced and clock divided so that everything moves together, allowing you to build some real wild patches. Each of the effects in isolation aren't going to blow your mind, but they sound plenty great with lots of usable sounds within the parameters available, and the genius of this pedal is that it is more than the sum of its parts. Stereo signal path is a must to really get the most out of this pedal, but you can still get some cool sounds in mono. As someone who plays guitar and synths, I love that this has a full-size DIN MIDI port on the back, so I can easily incorporate it into my electronic music rig. Tons of preset storage too, like way more than I would ever need. There are a few downsides. The signal path is hard-wired inside of the pedal, so you have to run them in series and you can't reorder them. It's also a big boy, so not ideal if you're trying to run a compact board. In spite of that, I'm plenty happy with the purchase. I bought it because EHX dropped 40% off the price (clearance sale maybe?) and it seemed like a fun pedal with a lot going on for only $170. Z Strings is still selling it for the discounted price, so snag it before they either sell out, bump the price back up, or EHX discontinues this.
