From the box:

Legend polished stainless steel bass strings are flat wound and constructed upon a round core which has been unique in the industry for many years. Legends require much more, care and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Legends results in a bass string which we believe is highly flexible, musically bright (not harshly bright) renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. DR strings are handmade (not machine-made) because our expert string makers are capable of making micro adjustments needed throughout the winding process for the best sound and feel possible. The Difference is Real.

DR bass strings are made with more metal than one realizes at first. By way of example, before a DR .105 gauge bass string is carefully wound, core wire and wrap wire that gauge at .108 are prepared. After a process we call "Compression-Winding," a DR bass String that gauges at .105 is produced.

The ratios and principles of "Tite Fit"/"Compression-Winding" are used for the specifications and manufacture of all DR strings. At DR we craft our strings at tension. The following is one example of how the DR wrap/ratio formula works...in this case for .105's, core wire is .022, the first wrap wire is .009 x 2 (top and bottom covers). The second wrap wire .014 x 2, and the third wrap wire is .020. The total before winding is .108, the total after winding is .105. The whole is less than the sum of its parts.
