Capture the full sound, feel, and dynamic response of a driven tube amplifier at recording and practice levels that are actually manageable. The selectable reactive load retains the natural interaction between the amplifier and speaker load, allowing the power section to operate in its ideal range without requiring stage-level volume.
The amplifier signal can be sent through the integrated 30-watt reactive drive power amplifier to an external speaker cabinet for low-volume playing. At the same time, cabinet emulation, microphone modeling, effects, and recording tools provide a polished direct signal for a mixer, audio interface, computer, or headphones.
Tube Amp Tone at Practical Volume
Tube amplifiers often sound and respond best when their power sections are working hard, but the resulting volume can be impractical outside a stage or isolation room. The selectable reactive load captures the amplifier’s speaker output while offering response characteristics modeled after combo and stack-style speaker systems.
The integrated reactive drive power amplifier delivers up to 30 watts to an external 4, 8, or 16-ohm speaker cabinet. Continuous speaker-output control makes it possible to retain the character of a driven amplifier while reducing the listening level for home practice, studio monitoring, and recording sessions.
Cabinet and Microphone Processing
The companion editor provides detailed control over the direct-recording signal. Choose from 22 BOSS speaker-cabinet emulations and five classic microphone types, with two microphones available simultaneously. Microphone position, distance, and level can be adjusted independently to create a blended cabinet sound.
Up to two speaker-cabinet impulse responses can also be used at the same time. The included collection features ten Celestion Digital IRs, while 64 user slots allow compatible third-party IRs to be stored in the unit. Integrated time-alignment tools help synchronize dual-IR combinations and reduce phase-related problems.
Mix Assist and Air Feel
Mix Assist provides three selectable contour curves with adjustable transient control, helping guitar tracks sit more naturally within a finished production. This allows the recorded sound to be shaped for the mix without requiring extensive external processing.
Air Feel uses BOSS spatial processing to recreate the depth and dimension associated with hearing an amplifier in a physical room. Two studio variations provide a more natural sense of space than a conventional close-miked cabinet signal, and Air Feel is also available through the headphone output for quiet playing.
Effects and Rig Storage
An external effects loop supports both series and parallel operation, allowing modulation, delay, reverb, and other effects to be placed after the amplifier’s distortion. Internal processing includes compression, parametric or graphic EQ, delay, and reverb.
Cabinet selections, microphone settings, IR combinations, effects, and other parameters can be organized as custom rigs in the editor. Ten favorite rigs can be stored for immediate recall from the front-panel Rig control.
Recording, Monitoring, and Control
USB-C audio supports direct recording and playback with compatible computers and mobile devices. Balanced stereo XLR outputs connect to mixers, recording equipment, and audio interfaces, while the front-panel headphone output supports quiet monitoring with Air Feel processing.
A MIDI input provides external control, and a dedicated connector supports the optional BOSS BT-DUAL Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor. With the adaptor installed, audio can be streamed from a mobile device and compatible editor functions can be controlled wirelessly.
